Christ word Study

Many you have heard the word Christ you have seen it on churches and in your bibles. We call Jesus himself the Christ, but how many of you have sat down and learned the definition? First of all the word itself comes from the Greek word Christos which means anointed or anointed one. So this word is not Jesus’s name but a title and this same title is used in 1 Samuel 24:6 in the Septuagint the Greek translation of the tanahk or old testament. In the original Hebrew the word is mashiyach this word is always used in old testament to describe people one of the most notable being the King of Israel. When David was running from Saul and his wanted him to kill Saul David said, “Far be it from me because of the Lord that I would do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to reach out with my hand against him, since he is the Lord’s anointed.” 1 Samuel 24:6 NASB. So when this term is used for Jesus what they are talking about is the anointed king. In the moment when Jesus is baptized in the Jordan river this is the moment that Jesus anointed to be the Christ the King. the Messiah. After which he is tested then begins his ministry.
